My name is Rogelio Ballesteros, I joined SAMPE years back as part of my professional development when I started working with composites around 12 years ago as a materials and process bachelor is Chemical Engineering and then I moved into the materials universe when pursuing my master and later my doctorate degree. I'm located in Mexicali, Baja California Mexico and work for Honeywell, currently my role is manager for materials testing but I still have my foot in the door in composites auditing as a NUCAP Network Auditor and also a HON certifying agent for HLPP, CP, MB and RTM. I'm also a part time teacher at the state university working with aerospace engineering students to learn about composites processing and coach them to participate at the annual SAMPE bridge contest, hopefully i get to see some of you.

what I would expect from Mega is having this space for collaboration and communication, please feel free to contact me in whatever I can be of assistance, currently I'm working to integrate into the new SAMPE chapter for MExico and become an active member helping drive growth within my country.

    Hello everyone,

My name is Yourri-Samuel Dessureault, and I am a PhD candidate at Florida State University working towards understanding how manufacturing parameters affect the mechanical properties of semicrystalline thermoplastic composites. My undergraduate degree specialized in Composite Materials Engineering giving me a fundamental understanding of the manufacturing and behavior of both thermoset and thermoplastic composites. As an undergraduate, I worked for Celanese Corporation where I discovered my passion for thermoplastic composites. Here at Florida State University, I am the vice president of the FAMU-FSU SAMPE Student Chapter and the head coordinator of the National Science Foundation sponsored RETREAT and Air Force sponsored DREAM summer Research Experiences for Undergraduates programs.

    Hello everyone,

    My name is Takuya Saito.

I work for SGL Carbon Japan Ltd.

I have been at SGL for 1 year.

Composites are relatively new field for me.

But with experiences in my former job, I support customers' development and design from the material side, a carbon fiber producer.

I was an engineering designer in automotive industry.

Fiber Reinforced Plastic is really interesting.

This material is not isotropic like steel or aluminum.

Designers have to understand this anisotropic properties and have to design not only a geometry of a part but a distribution of material properties.

I'd like to discuss how advanced materials are used overseas here.

    Kind regards,

    Takuya Saito

    Hi All,

My name is Eva (shortcut) and I am a PhD student in the Institute of Materials and Processes (IMP) in the University of Edinburgh. I hold a BSc in Material Science and a MSc in Polymer Science and Technology. Generally, my past, present and (maybe) future involves composite materials and their performance. Currently, I am studying the performance of CFRP for impact damage. My skills includes the manufacturing, the thermal, electrical and mechanical aspects on the characterization of those systems. Moreover, my work involves a sophisticate computational software that can simulate dynamically and statically, therefore I am using LS-DYNA.

I do not know how to adequately verbalize how important I have found "networking" in (person) at  SAMPE and other professional environments for technical knowledge, common problems/interests/professional development.   You can't find everything on the internet.  I find much more from meeting my peers, customers, suppliers in person.  Check out the Women in SAMPE event at Orlando.

    Hi everyone,

I'm a colleague of Thomas Odenwalder, also a Manufacturing Engineering student at Weber State University in Ogden Utah, and planning on graduating with a B.S. this fall.

I've also been working full time with the Boeing company in Salt Lake City for four years now, doing green composite automated layup and other fabrication tasks.

I was recently hired by Boeing to be a manufacturing planner, and I'm looking forward to this as it will deal with a side of composites I don't yet have a lot of experience with, ie post-cure assembly, bonding, and metals to composite interfaces.

I have been the WSU chapter president of SAMPE for the past year and have helped grow our brand new chapter on campus, enjoying telling smart people about the unique advantages of composites in design and fabrication.

Looking forward to connecting with you all!

    Hi All,

My name is Dave, located between Baltimore and Annapolis, MD. I'm probably an outlier for this community in that I'm not currently an engineer and do not work directly with advanced materials.

That being said, I've run a carbon fiber e-commerce business since 2007, in which we curate and source lifestyle products, personal accessories, and gifts that all use carbon fiber material (and in some occasion other composites such as Kevlar/Aramid).

I joined SAMPE through the recommendation of @Andrew Becnel who is our local chapter president because I am pursuing the idea of starting my own carbon fiber production/fabrication company. I love the idea of bringing this to the Baltimore/Annapolis area. Since my background is more in business/marketing/sales/e-commerce, I'm trying to take in as much as I can from the manufacturing side.

I understand conceptually how to produce carbon fiber parts using a few manufacturing processes, but do not have very much real-world experience. Ideally, I'm looking for a local co-founder who would be interested in helping to run this side of the business, though it has been tough finding people with hands-on experience in my area...either way, I'm still looking to learn as much as I can personally. It's likely that I'll go through Abaris, have any of you gone through their training?

Looking forward to connecting with folks and happy to help others in any way that I can!
